The Glaetzer Dixon Family Winemakers winery/cellar door was once an Eski Ice factory, now converted to a unique urban tasting venue and wine-making facility on the outskirts of Hobart. The cellar door has the feel of a modern wine cellar and features the lightbox tasting table in the centre of the room (designed and built by head wine-maker Nick Glaetzer), and the 2010 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy and award winning 2010 Mon Pere Shiraz on display in the glass wall cabinet.

In 2008 Nick established Glaetzer Dixon Family Winemakers sourcing fruit from select vineyards in the Tamar, Derwent & Coal River Valleys. In 2011 Nick won the coveted Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for his 2010 Mon Pere Shiraz, and was named ‘Young Winemaker of the Year’ by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine.

Nick Glaetzer comes from a famous wine making family in the Barossa Valley in South Australia. His father Colin Glaetzer is a Baron of the Barossa, and renowned for Barossa Valley Estates E&E Black Pepper Shiraz. His uncle John Glaetzer was chief wine maker at Wolf Blass for 30 years from 1974 -2004, winning 4 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophies during that time. His brother Ben Glaetzer is an award winning wine maker of AMON-Ra Shiraz, and another Baron of the Barossa.

After tasting what he thought was a Grand Cru Burgundy at a blind tasting at Leeuwin Estate, in Margaret River, Nick was stunned to discover the wine was in-fact a Tasmanian Pinot Noir made by Andrew Hood at Hood Wines, now Frogmore Creek Winery. In 2005 Nick Glaetzer came to Tasmania to make wine.

At Frogmore Creek Winery, Nick worked with Alain Rousseau, and consequently established relationships with grape growers who supplied them with premium quality fruit.

At the GDFW cellar door you will taste a series of full flavoured, textural hand crafted wines. Some of the current releases include:
